# Become Preceptor

> Become Preceptor is an independent guide to becoming a clinical preceptor for nurse practitioner students: the license and certification that qualify you, the orientation that prepares you, the affiliation agreement, and the front door to paid blocks at $12 to $20 per student hour.

- There is no preceptor license or universal preceptor certification in the United States; a preceptor qualifies through an active clinical credential, and individual programs run their own orientation before a student arrives.
- The three checks that decide eligibility for clinical NP rotations: an active, unencumbered license, national board certification in the student's population, and two years of practice since certification.
